Reduce stress this holiday season

Reduce stress this holiday season

Stress and overwhelm are synonymous with the holidays now, so it’s extra important to have tried and tested ways to get centered and back into the joy of the season. There are lots of things you may already be doing, or can tweak slightly to help you relax and feel more present

Tip #1: Have a cup of tea. Seriously. Black and green tea varieties have some profound physical health and mindfulness benefits. Did you know tea contains theanine, a compound that helps you relax? It counteracts much of the caffeine so instead of feeling jittery, you can get an energy boost but feel peaceful and focused at the same time. Tea also has antiviral properties to help you stay healthy, and if you opt for green tea, it’s an antioxidant paradise!

Tip #2: Make a list. Write down a list of everything you want to accomplish during a single day. This will help you organize and plan effectively so you are more likely to get everything done. The mind loves order and routine, so making a list helps give the mind structure, and that in and of itself can reduce stress and anxiety, while also helping you feel prepared and ready to tackle your day.

Tip #3: Make time for yourself.  It’s not about taking 2 hours for you, some days it may be about taking 10 minutes to yourself. If you create a daily habit of taking even 10 minutes that are just for your, your mental health will thrive. As mentioned above, the mind loves routine and consistency, so by adopting a daily routine of doing something nice for yourself, you’re staying mentally well, reducing stress, and giving yourself something to look forward to each and every day.

Oh, and remember to breathe! Slower deeper breathing calms the mind down so you can get back in focus.
