It?s a new year and as most would say it?s a chance to invent a new you. January, for many, symbolizes an opportunity for change and accomplishment. Though you?ve likely got a ton of resolutions in mind you want to tackle this year, it?s important not to neglect one thing ? yourself. As you?re striving to make a better future for yourself, you need to do things that make you smile, give you joy, and most importantly attribute to your well-being. Below is a look at some healthy and exciting things you can do for yourself in 2018.
Take a Trip
All work and no play can lead to more than just making Jack a dull boy. In fact, too much work without any socialization or pleasure in between can lead to chronic stress and burnout along with problems at home and workplace. This year, treat yourself to a vacation. Whether it?s just a one-night stay in a neighboring city or a week-long cruise on a tropical island, just take some time to get away from the norm.
Take a Nap
Most people don?t get the recommended amount of sleep each day because of demanding schedules. However, when you get enough sleep, it allows your body the time it needs to replenish and heal itself. This year, you?re encouraged to either develop a better sleep pattern or take a nap throughout the day. If you?re having trouble sleeping, you can try things like investing in natural mattresses with better support, reducing stress, or using aids like a warm glass of milk or a good book.
Update Your Wardrobe
Part of feeling good about yourself is looking good. If it?s been a while since you?ve treated yourself to a little retail therapy, make it a priority this year. Obviously, you don?t want to shop yourself into debt but buying yourself a small item here and there can put a smile on your face. Perhaps get that sheer bodysuit you?ve been looking for or a new pair of jeans. You?ll be surprised how great you feel when you put it on and step out.
Indulge in Snacks and Treats (Healthy Ones of Course)
What better way to treat yourself than to buy a sweet treat or salty snack? There?s nothing like a bowl of ice cream, brownie, or a bag of potato chips to bring a little joy to your life. Though it?s the little things that often mean the most, consuming too many sweets or junk can result in obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and other health issues. That doesn?t mean stop treating yourself. It simply means getting creative about what you eat. Instead of going for ice cream try yogurt with fruit, nuts, or granola for an extra kick. Rather than getting regular potato chips, you can make your own kale or sweet potato chips with sea salt to quench your craving.
This year is going to be great. As the pressures of making resolutions and keeping them can sometimes be overwhelming, make sure that you?re taking care of yourself first. It?s okay to stop and smell the roses, give yourself a pat on the back, and just smile at where you are right now. Chances are you?ll accomplish your goals a lot faster when you do.
